History

The chapel of Magdalena is one of the most important sites of this lovely town, of Michoacán and of Mexico.  This 16th century chapel was the first in the region where the dioceses of the Augustinians began evangelizing and practically founded Tacámbaro, and the extension of evangelization toward the region known as “hot land” and Guerrero.  This chapel disappeared with the passing of time until 1983, when experts in history and architecture found the place.  In 1998 restoration was achieved, presenting a treasure in Mexican history with its plateresque, baroque style.  This chapel is a must visit.
