History

A Spanish soldier and politician, on April 11, 1865 he defeated the French troops in the Battle of Tacámbaro, where more than 400 Belgians who were serving in the army of Maximillian I were entrenched in the city, in particular in the Cathedral of Tacámbaro, which they transformed into a fort.  The general, together with his forces, were able to defeat them even though they were holding hostage his wife and children.  He was the governor of the state of Michoacán in 1866, and the anniversary of his birth is celebrated in Tacámbaro on the 10th of September.
